Materials & colour concept
For our Advent calendar, we have opted for a warm, natural colour palette:
- Carmine red for festive accents
- White as a contrasting colour
- Brown and beige tones for a cosy atmosphere
- Fir greenery for a wintery touch
Recommended materials from our shop:
- Red and white wool felt
- Wooden stars to decorate
- Fir branches (artificial or fresh)
- Number tags or wooden discs for labelling
- Hot glue gun & crafting tools
You will also need some slightly larger branches, wooden battens or similar for the frame. A cordless drill can be helpful for building the frame.
This is how it works:
Step-by-step instructions
A homemade Advent calendar offers many advantages:
- Making felt bags
Cut the felt into diamond shapes and fold it into small bags. Fix in place with hot glue and decorate as desired with scraps of wool or small decorative elements.
- Build a frame
Use sturdy branches or wooden slats to build a rustic A-shaped frame. Alternatively, you can also use a clothes rack or a wooden ladder.
- Attach bags
The finished bags are attached to the frame with toothpicks, clips or small hooks. Make sure they are evenly distributed.
- Decorate
Decorate the frame with fir branches, wooden stars and small fairy lights for an atmospheric look.
- Attach numbers
Label small wooden stars or tags with the numbers 1 to 24 and attach them to the bags - this will turn every day of Advent into a little surprise.
